Cape Peninsula
The Cape Peninsula provides one of the most glorious and hugely dramatic drives anywhere in the world.
It stretches south from Cape Town’s towering and imposing Table Mountain, hugging the Atlantic coastline and down to the gorgeous Cape of Good Hope, before continuing on to its southerly extreme – the fearsome Cape Point. Here the wild Atlantic smashes into the calmer waters of False Bay creating a terrifying maelstrom of raw power.
The Peninsula’s spine is rugged, rocky and mountainous anchored at its northern end by Table Mountain. Proceeding south along the coastal route and starting at Mouille Point in the city and down to Cape Point is about 52 kms, but it’s 52 kms encompasses some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the world.
In no time at all the noise and confusion of metropolitan Cape Town is forgotten, hemmed in as one is by the stark and menacing beauty of the mountains on your left and the thundering ocean on your right pounding the white sand of the beaches or crashing onto the rocks below.
Another bonus is that the Cape Peninsula is host to some of the most unique floral kingdoms in the world with plants and flowers found absolutely nowhere else.
