Exploring the Cape Winelands on Horseback
What a way to spend a day!
If you enjoy the beautiful outdoors, fresh crisp air, magnificent scenery and especially horses then this activity is just for you. The Cape Winelands Riding Company offers a variety of different day rides and holiday packages. I booked an early morning horseback ride with Cape Winelands Riding which is situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands about 60 minutes drive from Cape Town.
The early morning air was crisp and the sweet smell of the lemon trees filled the air as we trailed through the lemon groves. My guide Kate happily chatted about the history of the area and different fruit farms that we passed. The farms were being tended to by the local workers who seem to know Kate quite well and were all excitedly greeting us as we rode by. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, with the towering mountains engulfing the area. We past through the famous vineyards of Babylonstoren Wine Estate. The ride that I booked was a 2-hour ride, light and comfortable riding pace and my horse was the adorable Tallahassee well behaved, sure-footed and very comfortable.
I just love horseriding and for me, it is good for my soul and I have time to think and clear my head. The beauty that engulfs one transforms you into a space and time of pure relaxation and changes your perspective of the world and one tends to forget the hustle and bustle of the city life if only for a couple of hours.
They do offer other outrides and if you enjoy horseriding then why not add a wine tasting to your activity and explore the different Wine Estates in the area on horseback. For more information contact them at: www.capewinelandsriding.co.za.
