Garden Route Tours

The Garden Route with its abundance of natural beauty and wonders, is located along the picturesque Southern Cape Coastline of South Africa. It stretches from Mossel Bay through George, Wilderness, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay up to Tsitsikamma and is a must-see highlight when you visit South Africa. A malaria-free Safari combines perfectly with the Garden Route.The Garden Route's extraordinary beauty complements the contrast of the adjacent semi-arid valley, called the Little Karoo. The tour offers natural wonders such as the Cango Caves and its ideal habitat for ostrich farming makes it the ostrich Mecca of the world. Running along a scenic stretch of coastline, the Garden Route is an ever changing landscape.

Day 1:
We depart from Cape Town early morning driving along route 62 through small towns such as Roberstson, Ashton, Montagu, Mc Gregor, Barrydale , Ladismith, historical Zoar and Amalienstein, Calitzdorp towards Oudshoorn. We stop in Robertson at one of the wine estates for wine tasting and refreshments before driving through small towns along the route to Oudshoorn. Lunch will be on route at one of the small towns along the way. Arrive in Oudshoorn late afternoon. Overnight at a luxury tented accommodation in a luxury Game Reserve.


Day 2:
Early morning activities begin: choose from  a meerkat , elephant encounter or a game drive. After breakfast we drive to the Cango Caves, Ostrich farm ( lunch on route ) and after lunch the Cango Ranch. Depart from Oudshoorn through George to Knysna. Arrive at Knysna late afternoon.                                                                                                          Overnight in Knysna (4 star B&B) or similar.

Day 3: 
After an  early morning breakfast  we head to the Knysna lagoon for a ferry boat ride to Featherbed a private nature reserve and national heritage site, you are taken on a 4 x 4 drive stopping at spectacular sights and views. Lunch will be in the outdoors in a setting under a canopy of Milkwood trees. Optional guided walk through coastal forests and ancient caves.The afternoon is spent at leisure in Knysna , shopping or taking a stroll through this beautiful town. Dinner will be at restaurant of your choice.

Day 4:
After an early morning breakfast we drive via Wilderness, Victoria bay and Mosselbay to
Albertina, experience a 4 x 4 game drive in the Garden Route Game reserve, viewing the big 5, we have lunch at the game reserve before taking the journey back to Cape Town where you will be dropped off at your accommodation or arranged drop off point.

This delightful tour takes visitors along the Route 62 up to Oudshoorn where you will have the opportunity to explore the Cango Caves and meet some inquisitive ostriches at an Ostrich farm The tour then continues on to Knysna’s  beautiful lagoon and the Featherbed Nature Reserve before driving through to Plettenberg Bay . We then spend the next few days along a coastal route via Cape Aghulas back to Cape Town.

Visitors can then choose to walk the 2.2km route through the milkwood forest and onto a track along the coast back to the restaurant, or be driven back by 4×4. Lunch will be at the restaurant. After lunch we drive back to Knysna for a leisure afternoon shopping or other activities such as kayaking, Knysna lagoon boat cruise, sunset cruise, oyster experience, oyster tour.

Day 3: Early morning activities begin after breakfast and we drive to Plettenberg bay for our first stop at the Jukani Wildlife Ranch, we then drive to the Noah’s wolf Sanctuary ( lunch will be on route) after lunch we go Monkeyland/ Birds of Eden  (other activities to choose from are : Horse riding Safari, mtb Trail, Quad biking or hiking) we then drive to the Garden Route Game Reserve where we will overnight.

Day 4: Early morning begins with a game drive ( coffee stop on morning drive)( sundowners’ on evening drive) enjoy a hearty breakfast after the game drive, after breakfast you can choose any other activity offered such as Spa treatments, Reptile encounter, walk to the bird hide , see the beautiful flora or fauna, or just relax by the pool ( lunch at the Restaurant) late afternoon game drive before dinner.

Day 5: After an early morning breakfast we begin our drive back towards Cape Town stopping at Mosselbay to explore the town and visit the Cape St Blaize lighthouse , The Post Office tree and other historical museums in the town, we have lunch at one of the restaurants in town before continuing our journey to Cape Agulhas arriving late afternoon.

Day 6: After breakfast we explore the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse and see the most Southern  tip of Africa before departing on our  journey, we will stop at small towns along the route, we drive to Hermanus for lunch before returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon.

9 day Garden Route tour to the Addo Elephant Park. (Cape Town return) 
Journey along the coast line from Cape Town towards Cape Agulhas and onto the Addo Elephant Park, passing raw natural beauty of white sandy beaches and an untamed coast line. This tour takes you along an enchanting shoreline of lovely bays and coves, high cliffs and wide estuaries, with a hinterland of mountains, spectacular passes, rivers, waterfalls and wooden ravines. The lagoon and lakes around Knysna and the Wilderness are magical stretches of water. We travel along the coast towards the Addo Elephant Park which stretches from the semi-arid Karoo area in the north around Darlington Dam, over the rugged Zuurberg Mountains, through the Sundays River Valley and south to the coast between Sundays River mouth and Bushman’s river mouth, Addo covers about 180 000 hectares (444 700 acres) and includes the Bird and St Croix Island groups. The original elephant section of the park was proclaimed in 1931, when only eleven elephants remained in the area. Today this finely-tuned ecosystem is sanctuary to over 600 elephant, lion, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard, a variety of antelope and zebra species, as well as the unique Addo flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo. The park can exclusively claim to be the only national park in the world to conserve the “Big 7” – the Big 5 as well as the southern right whale and great white shark off the Algoa Bay coast.We then return to Cape Town exploring the Little Karoo and Route 62.It’s an area of magnificent landscapes and towering cliffs, crystal clear streams and an abundance of trees and indigenous flora – all contribute to make Paarl, Wellington, the Breede River Valley, Klein Karoo and Langkloof some of South Africa’s most diverse regions.The ever changing colours of the majestic mountains, scenic passes, rivers, vineyards and orchards, as well as the multitude of attractions, will offer you an unforgettable adventure – whether this is in the physical sense or simply a kaleidoscope of scenic tranquillity.

Day 1: Pick up from your accommodation in Cape Town, we drive towards Hermanus along  the coast line passing beautiful coastal scenery and small coastal villages, stopping at Betty Bay to view the penguins along route  before stopping at the quaint town of Hermanus. ( Whale watching and boat cruise in the afternoon) ( depending on weather and season). The afternoon is spent meandering around the coastal village, activities of choice and lunch .

Day 2: After a hearty breakfast we drive along the coast towards Cape Agulhas , stopping too explore the southern most tip of Africa and the lighthouse.
We drive from Hermanus to Cape Agulhas , exploring Cape Agulhas , the most southern tip of Africa and the lighthouse . We  travel to the Coastal City of Mossel Bay. It is here where the Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Diaz set foot on shore in 1488, and we dedicate some time to visiting the museum which bears his name. The museum stands not far from the Milkwood Tree and fountain which served respectively as a post office and watering hole to seafarers in centuries past. Lunch will be at a restaurant in Mossel bay before our drive to Knysna. The aftenoon is spent at leisure or your choice of activities.

Day 3:  Activities begin in Knysna after breakfast, we drive to Featherbed nature reserve, transported over the lagoon by ferry you are taken on a guided 4×4 trip to the top of the headland seeing spectacular views. Day 5: Sedgefield to Tsitsikamma & Addo Elephant ParkToday we visit Tsitsikamma National Park after breakfast, stopping at Bloukrans Bridge along the way. At Bloukrans we have time to view the world’s highest commercial bungee jump bridge (216 metres) and the adventure seekers among you can even test your courage by taking the plunge. We spend the afternoon in the Tsitsikamma National Park with its unique combination of indigenous forests, mountains and the rugged Indian Ocean coastline. The area offers a wide choice of activities for all, including long and short hikes, treetop canopy tours, crossing the suspension bridge and swimming. In the late afternoon we leave the charming Garden Route for the Big Five Addo Park, where we overnight in the area.

Day 6: After breakfast we spend the morning exploring Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Our 3-4 hour Addo game drive takes us in search of the Big Five and other wildlife found in this 28 000 hectare National reserve. We spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure before the evening game drive at sunset.

Day 7: Wake up with the birds on day 6 we head into the African bush on an early morning game drive, returning from our morning exploration of Addo Elephant Park after breakfast  , we drive from the Addo Elephant Park to Oudshoorn.Following the inland road to Oudtshoorn we pause in a charming village for lunch (own cost) along the way. We drive into the long valley formed by the Swartberg Mountains in the north and the Outeniqua Mountains in the south, making our way to Oudtshoorn.

Day 8: .Early morning activities begin: choose from  a meerkat , elephant encounter or a game drive. After breakfast we drive to the Cango Caves, Ostrich farm ( lunch on route ) and after lunch the Cango Ranch. The late afternoon we have sun downers and relax till dinner.

Day 9:Oudtshoorn to Cape Town (Western Cape)
On the final day we enjoy a slow-paced breakfast and set off west via the agricultural area surrounding Oudtshoorn. We drive along the scenic route which passes through farming towns such as Calitzdorp, Ladismith, historic Amalienstein, Zoar and the fruit growing and wine producing towns of Barrydale, Montagu, Ashton, Bonnievale, Robertson, McGregor, Worcester,Rawsonville, Ceres, Wolseley, Tulbagh, Wellington and Paarl and reaching Cape Town in the late afternoon. We stop for lunch on route( own account)
